4Ps of Economic Impact
The economic impact of local purchasing is measured in four areas (the 4 Ps): profits to local owners, payroll to local employees, purchasing for local products and/or local services, and philanthropy to local causes. Other economic impacts come from local taxes paid by businesses in your community (but not online companies not based here). The highest impact will come from locally owned businesses that provide local products and/or services. However, locally owned businesses with imported products also offer economic value. Alternatively, if you have contracted to foreign-owned companies (this includes U.S. or other foreign-owned businesses with some kind of presence or a business license in your community), you can work to require local/social payroll and local/social purchasing from them as part of the contract.
